- Search the Louisiana Birth Records Index Database through the Secretary of State, and order certified copies of birth certificates for births that occurred in Louisiana more than 100 years from the end of the current calendar year. The only birth records that are available prior to 1911 are from Orleans Parish.

Louis J. Perret was elected Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court on November 20, 1999. He was elected in June 2000 by his fellow Clerks to serve as State Director for Louisiana to IACREOT (International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers). In March of 2001, Perret was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Clerks of Court Association. In March 2003, he was re-elected to the Board of Directors for another two-year term.

***NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC***
The Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court will no longer be accepting passport applications due to the Coronavirus situation until further notice. The United States Post Office located at 1105 Moss St. in Lafayette, LA 70501 (337-269-7110) and the Post Office located at 5926 Cameron St. in Scott, LA 70583 (337-237-1589) can accept passport applications. For their hours of operation and more information, contact their offices directly.
Due to the increase in covid-19 cases, Birth Certificates will not be issued from the clerk's office until further notice. Birth documents can be obtained online through Vital Records at www.ldh.la.gov or by phone at (504)593-5100.
Effective Nov. 1, 2018, our office will no longer accept paper documents submitted on CD's, DVD's or thumb drives.
The Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court will provide limited internet access to the ClerkConnect website while inside the courthouse on floors 1-5. If you have an online search account with ClerkConnect you may access this through our public Wi-Fi named ClerkConnect.
All filings made with the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court may become public record subject to the Public Records Act.
